Claude Personal Finance Links US Bank Accounts via Plaid
Anthropic's Claude Personal Finance links US Pro, Max and Ultra plans to banks via Plaid with read-only access. What can Claude see, and what can it not do?
Published 3 min read

Anthropic launched Claude Personal Finance on November 5, 2026, a beta tool that lets U.S. Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers connect bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and ask Claude about spending, balances and bills in plain language. Access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest money, and Anthropic says the feature is not designed to give investment advice.
According to reporting by TechCrunch and The Verge, the rollout matches a capability OpenAI added to ChatGPT in May. Anthropic is pushing Claude deeper into consumer tools after reporting $17 billion in Q3 revenue.
What Can Claude Personal Finance Do?
Users can ask questions such as "Where did my money go this month?" Claude totals spending across connected accounts and sorts it into categories like rent and utilities, food and drink, and shopping. Follow-ups can check whether a category is higher than usual, whether spending outpaces income, or whether a big purchase looks affordable before the next payday.
Anthropic also says the tool can flag duplicate charges, unexpected fees and rising bills, explain terms such as APR, and show how much interest a user has paid over the past year. Answers appear in everyday language, with no ads or sponsored product pitches and no Claude-branded credit cards, loans or savings accounts.
What Data Does Claude See?
For accounts a user chooses to connect, Claude can see the bank's name, each account's name and type, the last four digits of the account number, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history. Plaid handles the link, so Claude does not receive banking passwords. Anthropic says chats inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models.
That read-only design matters after banks warned customers not to share passwords with AI assistants, as covered in our Bank of America AI password warning. Users still hand over sensitive balances and history, even without passwords.
Who Can Use It Now?
The beta is limited to Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the United States, including the higher-tier Claude Ultra plan. Anthropic called Personal Finance a first step and said bigger money decisions are best made with licensed professionals. It also invited banks and wealth managers to help shape deeper integrations.
Our Take
Claude Personal Finance is Anthropic catching up to ChatGPT on a high-stakes consumer feature. The Plaid setup and training opt-out for hub chats lower some obvious risks, but they do not erase privacy trade-offs. For U.S. paid users who already live in Claude, it is a convenient spending companion. Treat it as a read-only dashboard with an AI chat, not a financial adviser.
