Fal Funding Hits $1.3B as AI Media Startup Doubles to $16B

Fal funding has reached a new level. The San Francisco company, which runs image, video and audio AI models for developers and businesses, announced on November 3 that it raised a Series F led by Bessemer Venture Partners. According to Bloomberg, the round brings in $1.3 billion at a $16 billion valuation, double the $8 billion it was valued at in April.

Nvidia joined as a strategic investor, with Sound Ventures and T. Rowe Price also taking part, Bloomberg reported. In its own announcement, fal also disclosed for the first time that it closed a Series E led by Sequoia Capital earlier this year. That round was reported at about $350 million, which puts the two rounds together at roughly $1.65 billion.

A person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that fal reached $800 million in annualized revenue this year. The company did not publish revenue figures itself.

What Fal Does and Why Investors Care

Fal sells inference, the computing work of running a trained model each time someone asks it for an image or a clip. Developers reach thousands of models through a single API, and model makers use fal to distribute and serve their work. Bessemer, which says it has invested in every round since the Series B, lists Adobe, Canva, Shopify, World Labs and Amazon among the large companies that run production work on the platform.

In its investment note, Bessemer argues that media generation is a different technical problem from chatbots. Image and video models refine a whole frame over many passes, so they need memory, compute and latency handled differently than text models that output one token at a time.

Fal has also moved beyond hosting. Its research team released H3 Max, a post-trained version of MiniMax H3, in August and worked with Black Forest Labs on Flux 3 Max last week. Enterprises can now commission custom post-trained models that run only on fal.

Where the Money Goes

The company says the new capital pays for two things in 2027: more inference capacity to run models at scale and a bigger team for research and new products. Compute is the pressing need. In an interview released alongside the news, the founders described a compute shortage that is shaping how and when new models launch.

Fal was founded in 2021 by CEO Burkay Gur and CTO Gorkem Yurtseven, who previously built machine learning infrastructure at Coinbase and Amazon. The company now has more than 150 employees, up from about 70 when it raised a $140 million Series D in December 2025.

What It Means

The round is another sign that investors see inference, not only model training, as a durable business. Rival inference platform Baseten is also raising about $2 billion at a reported $30 billion valuation.

Demand keeps rising as studios and ad agencies adopt high-resolution video models such as BytePlus Seedance 2.5.

At $16 billion, fal is valued at about 20 times the revenue figure Bloomberg cited. Whether that holds will depend on fal securing enough GPUs to keep up with customers while prices for video generation stay high.
