iPhone Duo Apps Pass 100,000, but Big Names Still Lag
Apple says well over 100,000 iPhone Duo apps are live two weeks after launch, with Word, Zoom and Etsy joining, while Teams, Venmo and Duolingo still wait.

Apple says there are now well over 100,000 iPhone Duo apps on the App Store, two weeks after its first foldable went on sale, and thousands more are arriving every day. The November 6 statement answers the biggest complaint in early reviews, though plenty of major apps still have not made the jump.
What did Apple announce about iPhone Duo apps?
Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said developers have embraced the device quickly and that optimized apps are being added to the store daily. Apple also said more than 2,000 developers attended over 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities in the past month to test their apps on real hardware.
The milestone landed alongside a new batch of updates. Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, Zoom, Etsy, Goodnotes, the NBA and NHL apps and the Halide Mark III camera app are now ready, joining Netflix, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp from launch. Apple is also adding a "Made for iPhone Duo" badge to App Store listings, and Apple's own developer push extends to tools like GitHub Copilot in Xcode.
What counts as an optimized app?
According to MacRumors, the 100,000 figure covers apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later. How an app behaves on the Duo depends on which SDK it was built with.
| Built with | How it looks on iPhone Duo |
|---|---|
| iOS 27.1 SDK or later | Fills both displays, with vertical controls in the status bar |
| iOS 27 SDK | Fills most of the inner display but avoids the status bar on the right edge |
| iOS 26 SDK or earlier | Sits in the center of the inner display with black space on both sides |
Which big apps are still missing?
MacRumors lists Bluesky, DoorDash, Duolingo, Google Docs and Sheets, Microsoft Teams, PayPal, Starbucks, Steam, Venmo and YouTube Music among the apps not yet updated. Even listed apps are not always finished. TechCrunch found Spotify still showing a black bar on its review unit, and The Verge noted Instagram looked messy at launch despite its badge, with Instagram chief Adam Mosseri calling the Duo "a bit of a tricky form factor."
Apple has had a rocky start with the hardware too, after reports that iPhone Duo replacement units were running short as screen cracks piled up.
Our Take
A big number this early is a good sign, because apps using standard SwiftUI and UIKit components adapt largely on their own. The real test is the long tail of banking, delivery and work apps people open every day, and that list is still long. For buyers in Türkiye waiting on the Duo, it is worth checking that local banking and super apps carry the badge before paying foldable prices.
