No Touchscreen for MacBook Air!

Striking new developments have emerged regarding Apple’s upcoming hardware roadmap for its Mac lineup. Industry rumors suggest that the M6-powered MacBook Pro, expected to launch late this year, will be the first Mac to feature touchscreen support. To support this hardware shift, the upcoming macOS 27 operating system is anticipated to include significant touchscreen optimizations this fall.

Apple’s Strategic Decision: Touchscreen May Be Exclusive to M6 MacBook Pro

It remains uncertain whether the tech giant will expand this innovative step to its other computers. According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple currently plans to limit the touchscreen feature exclusively to the new MacBook Pro. The report explicitly states that the company has not yet made a definitive decision to bring the touch experience to other models.

The report also sheds light on the future of the highly anticipated MacBook Air series. Gurman notes that the MacBook Air is expected to transition to OLED displays around 2028 or later. Based on this timeline, any potential touchscreen support for the MacBook Air is not projected to arrive until 2028 at the earliest.

Low Expectations for the MacBook Neo

Expectations for the MacBook Neo—Apple’s more affordable laptop offering—have shifted significantly. While renowned supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted that the next MacBook Neo would receive touchscreen support, he revised his forecast last week, stating that the budget-friendly model will not feature a touchscreen. Mark Gurman corroborated this, expressing serious doubt that Apple is even considering touchscreen integration for its entry-level Mac model.

Apple’s decision to restrict touchscreen technology to the high-end “Pro” segment marks a significant strategic pivot in its hardware philosophy. What are your thoughts on this? Would you prefer a touchscreen MacBook Pro for your daily tasks, or are you satisfied with the traditional keyboard and trackpad experience? Share your views in the comments!
