Perplexity Teammates launched on November 5, 2026 for Max subscribers on the web. These AI agents keep working without a prompt, track your jobs and can even message your coworkers in Slack.
In other words, Teammates is pitched less as a chatbot waiting for a question and more as a virtual colleague. So what does that mean for you? Instead of writing long prompts every session, you hand an agent a role and a high-level goal.
What is Perplexity Teammates?
In its announcement on X, Perplexity described Teammates as agents that "work for you." In addition, they use your Perplexity Computer tasks, skills, memory and tools, and they can collaborate with other teammates.
CEO Aravind Srinivas framed them as personal agents for work. According to the company, the paradigm shifts from session-based prompts to high-level goals. In addition, native apps are coming soon.
Introducing teammates. Teammates work for you. They take on jobs, and work proactively using your Computer tasks, skills, memory, and tools. Teammates collaborate with other teammates and can message coworkers in Slack. Available now for Max subscribers on the web.

How do Teammates work?
According to the official help article, each teammate has its own role. In practice, it monitors your connected tools and acts when something changes. However, when it needs your input, it stops and asks.
Technically, each teammate is built from Projects, skills and memory in Perplexity Computer. For example, an agent can watch specific Slack channels and triage new requests for you.
Is it secure?
First, every teammate runs on its own isolated computer, with a separate desktop, browser and cookies. As a result, you can review an agent's desktop and take over at any time.
Also, plugins and skills run with the same permissions you have. Meanwhile, credentials are encrypted, and teammates cannot view them. In addition, project permissions and the Slack channels an agent monitors are set separately.
Who can use it?
For now, Teammates is a research preview for individual Max subscribers on the web. Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max accounts are not included by default, so you need a Max subscription to try it.
On the other hand, Teammates draw from the Max plan's monthly credit allocation. Complex or parallel tasks burn more credits, so running many agents nonstop can drain your allowance quickly.
Our take
Perplexity is pushing the agent strategy it started with the Comet browser, which it later made free. However, the key difference is that these agents run in the background without waiting for prompts. Still, credit usage and permission controls will decide how practical it is day to day.
