Android XR glasses concept: stylish black smart glasses on a table in soft light

The first Android XR glasses now have an official release window: December 2026. Gentle Monster, one of Google's two eyewear design partners, confirmed the date on November 6, days after Warby Parker said pre-orders for its own pair open on November 12.

Gentle Monster shared the news in an X post that teases a short film starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Jonathan Glazer. The post simply says "The collection launches this December." As 9to5Google pointed out, this is the first official confirmation of a date that had only been rumored.

When Can You Pre-Order Android XR Glasses?

Warby Parker opens pre-orders on November 12 and promises delivery during the holiday season. Gentle Monster's website also lists November 12 for pre-orders, according to Engadget. However, Google itself has not confirmed either date, and no brand has shared a price yet.

What Can the Android XR Glasses Do?

These first models have no display. Instead, they run an audio-first version of Android XR with Google's Gemini assistant built in. You can say "Hey Google" or tap the frame to ask about what you are looking at, get directions, take calls, translate speech or capture photos.

Gentle Monster's US product page says the glasses work with both Android phones and iPhones. It also lists up to 9 hours of battery life per charge, with the case adding at least seven more charges. Some features will need a subscription, the page adds.

Why Is It Called Intelligent Eyewear?

Google, Samsung and both fashion partners now use the "Intelligent Eyewear" name for the product line. In other words, Google is copying the approach that made Meta's Ray-Ban glasses popular: put the tech inside frames people already want to wear.

Our Take

A December launch is late in the year, but it gives Google a shot at holiday sales against Meta, which keeps pushing its AI features with updates like the new Meta Muse models. Meanwhile, screenless AI gadgets are becoming a trend, as the upcoming Nothing AI device also shows. Price will decide the winner, so November 12 is the date to watch.
