Anthropic generator deal concept: large unbranded industrial generator units beside a generic warehouse at dusk, no logos or readable text

An Anthropic generator deal worth about $3.4 billion would give the AI company 1.7 gigawatts of gas-fired generators for data centers, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, November 8, 2026. CNBC's account of that report, published at 8:50 a.m. EST the same day, said Anthropic bought the commitments in late September from OnePWR Solutions, a San Antonio, Texas equipment supplier.

The newspaper described the purchase as the largest known single buy of power-generation equipment by an AI lab. CNBC said Reuters could not immediately verify the report, and that Anthropic and OnePWR did not respond to requests for comment.

What did the Anthropic generator deal include?

According to the FT, later summarized by The Next Web on November 8, 2026, the agreement also covered the engineering and construction work needed to install the generators. OnePWR had ordered the machines from Caterpillar about two years earlier but needed financing to complete the purchase.

Anthropic first planned to buy power from OnePWR as a customer. It then took over those existing Caterpillar orders instead. The reports said it is not known where the generators will be used.

Did Anthropic buy OnePWR?

No. The FT said Anthropic did not acquire OnePWR itself, and none of the supplier's employees transferred to the AI company. Both companies declined to comment to the FT, and The Next Web said they also did not immediately respond to Bloomberg.

The purchase, if confirmed, would give Anthropic more direct control over scarce power equipment rather than waiting in a long supplier line. That scramble for electricity is the same pressure we described in what is a data center.

How does this fit Anthropic's larger plans?

Power limits are already slowing some projects, including the Southeast Asia data centers delayed by local approvals.

The spending also matters for investors, a topic we examined when looking at the Anthropic IPO valuation.
