Unity acquisition talks are underway: Unity Software has held recent discussions to be acquired by a consortium that includes Silver Lake Partners and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Nov. 5, 2026. The group discussed a valuation of about $25 billion before Unity's latest earnings, according to the exclusive reported by Channel NewsAsia carrying the Reuters story.

What Is Behind This Unity acquisition Bid?

Silver Lake, which already owns about 8% of Unity, and PIF approached the company in recent weeks, the sources said. After Unity's earnings lifted its market capitalization to roughly $21.5 billion, shares were up about 4% in extended trading following the Reuters report. No deal is certain, and the plan and terms may still change.

The Verge summarized the same Nov. 5 report for a games audience, stressing that Unity is evaluating options with an investment bank after the approach. Unity declined to comment; Silver Lake and PIF did not immediately respond to Reuters.

Why Do Silver Lake and PIF Matter in Games?

The same pair were part of the consortium that took Electronic Arts private in a $55 billion deal that closed in August. Affinity Partners was also in that EA buyout, but Affinity is not named in the Unity talks. Unity's engine already powers titles from studios tied to that investor circle, including Scopely's Monopoly Go and Niantic's Pokemon Go.

Silver Lake invested up to $400 million in Unity in 2017 and remains among its largest shareholders. Partner Egon Durban sits on Unity's board, a dual role that would typically lead him to recuse himself from sale deliberations.

What Did Unity's Latest Earnings Show?

On Thursday, Unity reported third-quarter revenue of $622.1 million, up 32%, with adjusted earnings of $0.44 per share, beating Wall Street estimates. Growth in advertising and game-development businesses helped, and Reuters noted Unity's first GAAP quarterly profit since its September 2020 IPO.

That rebound sits alongside a busy PC calendar covered in our November 2026 game releases roundup.

EA's own catalog push continues with the recent EA classic games Steam drop of restored vault titles.

Our Take

A take-private near $25 billion would rank among the larger software LBOs of recent years, but talks are not a signed deal. For another media-tech M&A thread this week, see our note on the Letterboxd acquisition talks.
