Pixel Watch Battery Drain Confirmed by Google, Fix on the Way

Google has confirmed a Pixel Watch battery drain problem that is cutting battery life on several generations of its smartwatch to under 12 hours, and says a software fix is being prepared. The company has not given a release date for the update.

The confirmation came in late October 2026 as a reply from Google to owners in the r/PixelWatch community on Reddit, where complaints had been piling up for several days.

What Google Said About the Pixel Watch Battery Drain

Google said, “We have identified a battery drain issue, affecting a small number of Pixel Watch users, and are working to roll out a fix as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

The statement, first spotted by Android Authority, does not say what is causing the drain or how many watches are affected. Google also did not offer an official workaround.

Which Pixel Watch Models Are Affected?

According to owner reports, the problem shows up on the Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4 and the current Pixel Watch 5. Watches that normally last a day or two on a charge are now running out in less than 12 hours, and some owners say the battery drops even while the watch sits idle with the Always-on Display turned off.

Because the symptoms look the same across four generations of hardware, the issue appears to be software related rather than a battery failure. That points to a buggy app or a background service stuck running, although Google has not confirmed the cause.

What You Can Do Until the Fix Arrives

There is no guaranteed solution yet, but owners have reported mixed results with a few steps:

  • Restart the watch. This has helped some users, but many see no change.
  • Install any pending Wear OS system and app updates on the watch and the paired phone.
  • As a last resort, do a factory reset and set the watch up as new instead of restoring a backup. Several owners say this worked, but it means configuring the watch from scratch.

On the oldest affected model, the Pixel Watch 2, normal battery wear after about three years of use may also play a part, so a battery service could be worth checking if life stays poor after the update.

The fix is expected to arrive as a software update for the watch. On the phone side, Google recently shipped the recent Android 17 QPR3 Beta 3 build with 26 bug fixes for Pixel devices.

Battery and stability bugs are not new for Android devices this autumn. A separate flaw dubbed the Android SMS of Death showed how a single silent text could crash phones.

If you are wondering when your phone will get the next big platform update, our guide to the Android 17 release date covers the rollout by brand. We will update this story when Google’s Pixel Watch fix starts rolling out.
