AMD is coming with its next-generation processors

AMD is adding two new processors featuring 3D V-Cache technology to its Ryzen 9000 series, built on the Zen 5 architecture. One of the new models features 8 cores and 96MB of L3 cache, while the other comes with 16 cores and 192MB of “Dual X3D” cache capacity. This represents a cache size never seen before in a mainstream desktop processor.

AMD to Unveil New Processors

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D models, currently on sale, are available with 8 and 16 cores, respectively. The new 16-core Ryzen 9 model stands out with its 32 threads and 200W TDP.

The biggest difference in this model is the inclusion of 64MB of 3D V-Cache on both core dies (CCDs), bringing the total cache to 192MB. The current Ryzen 9 9950X3D comes with 128MB of cache. The new model significantly raises the performance envelope.

Dual 3D V-Cache technology will be available to retail users for the first time in the AMD Ryzen series with these processors. While some prototypes have appeared before, this feature has not been available in commercial products until now. The new 16-core model will be priced higher than the $699 price of the current Ryzen 9 9950X3D, and will be priced at $799 or higher.

The new 8-core model has a 120W TDP and 96MB of L3 cache. Its specifications are quite similar to the current Ryzen 7 9800X3D. This processor is expected to be available as an affordable option for under $450 or as a higher-clocked variant for around $499.

The Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 processors utilize second-generation AMD V-Cache technology. This technology allows the processors to run cooler, deliver faster performance, and be more suitable for overclocking. AMD’s new processors will offer a significant advantage in gaming and high-performance applications, particularly by increasing cache capacity.
