Mario Kart World on Switch 1: Modder Ports Switch 2 Exclusives

Mario Kart World on Switch 1 is no longer just a joke: a modder known on X as @touhoufagyuri (fuyuka) has shown the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive running on an original 2017 Switch, along with Pokémon Pokopia. The clips were posted between October 31 and November 1, 2026. The ports are unofficial, rely on an overclocked console and heavy cuts, and will not be released to the public.

How Mario Kart World on Switch 1 Was Made Playable

The work builds on the Switch 2 jailbreak, which lets hobbyists dump their own game files from the new console. We covered the first Switch 2 jailbreak when it appeared. The modder says everything shown comes from personal dumps of games she owns, and she credits the AI coding tool DeepSeek Harness for making the project possible.

The first attempts were rough. An early Mario Kart World clip ran at about 2 fps. After switching to low-quality level of detail (LOD) models and a lower render resolution in docked mode, the game reached what she called “solid FPS”, although some effects were still missing. According to Wccftech, prebaked shaders and other optimizations brought it close to playable on an overclocked Switch, but stutter remains and large parts of the Free Roam mode were cut.

The hardware gap explains the trade-offs. The original Switch uses Nvidia’s Tegra X1 with 4 GB of RAM, while the Switch 2 has 12 GB of faster LPDDR5X memory and a much more capable GPU.

Pokémon Pokopia Runs Better

Pokopia, a lighter game that launched in March 2026, fared better. On an overclocked Switch V1 the modder reported these results:

  • 1080p: 10 to 15 fps
  • 720p: 32 to 35 fps with stuttery frame pacing
  • 720p capped at 30 fps: “actually really playable” in her words
  • Handheld without overclock: 360p render scale with reduced models and textures, played offline

She also warned that later parts of the game could behave differently than these short tests, and that the handheld unit ran extremely hot.

No Download, and Skeptics Remain

Nobody can try these ports. “Due to legal reasons, the code is not publicly available. It’s strictly for display purposes only, so please purchase the official game if you want to play,” the modder said. Some viewers accused her of streaming the games from another device, so she later recorded Pokopia with airplane mode on. Her own footage has not been independently verified, so similar claims should be treated with caution.

Nintendo has not commented and has announced no Switch 1 versions of either game. The scene is moving fast: the Switch 2 jailbreak process got simpler recently, and Mario Kart World has even been emulated on an iPhone 18 Pro.
