Samsung’s Exynos modem for SpaceX!

Following a massive order of advanced chips from Tesla, Samsung is focusing on further strengthening its partnership with Elon Musk’s companies. According to a new report, Samsung is designing an advanced Exynos modem chip that could revolutionize phone connection speeds with SpaceX satellites.

Exynos Modem Could Speed Up Connections to SpaceX Satellites by 55 Times!

According to KED Global, Samsung is developing a specialized Exynos modem chip for direct satellite connectivity. Its most striking feature is its built-in NPU (Artificial Intelligence Accelerator), which significantly speeds up device connection to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites compared to existing chips. This innovation aims to eliminate the need for ground-based base stations.

According to leaks, Samsung executives met with SpaceX officials to discuss the new chip’s technical details and development progress. The Exynos modem currently under development is said to be capable of 55 times faster beam identification and 42 times faster channel estimation compared to existing LEO link chips. This translates to significantly faster satellite path tracking.

The chip can optimize the signal in real time by predicting satellite orbits, thus delivering higher data transfer speeds. Samsung aims to supply this Exynos modem to SpaceX’s future 6G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) infrastructure. With this 6G NTN network, SpaceX aims to connect the entire world with seamless, low-latency connectivity. This is particularly crucial for autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots.

Direct satellite networks are estimated to replace traditional cellular networks in the future and could become a $540 billion industry by 2040. Therefore, the success of Samsung’s new Exynos modem chip is critical to maintaining its leading position in the mobile ecosystem.
