Assassin's Creed Hexe Reportedly Slips to 2028 as Rome Game Leaks
Ubisoft's next mainline Assassin's Creed has reportedly been pushed back a year, while leaks point to a game set in Ancient Rome. What do we actually know?

Assassin's Creed Hexe, Ubisoft's next mainline entry in the series, has reportedly been delayed internally by another year and is now likely to launch in 2028. Insider Gaming reported the slip on November 7, 2026, alongside claims that two more Assassin's Creed games are in development: Codename Mars, set in Ancient Rome, and Codename Pocket, a mobile game set in Jerusalem.
Ubisoft has not confirmed the delay or either new project, so all three claims should be treated as unofficial for now.
Is Assassin's Creed Hexe delayed to 2028?
According to Insider Gaming's report by Tom Henderson, sources said as recently as October that Hexe "has had issues" and was pushed back internally by a year. Many fans had expected the game in 2027, the year the series turns 20.
Ubisoft's own wording leaves room for a longer wait. In its Assassin's Creed Fall 2026 Update on October 29, covered by Game Informer, the publisher said it was "making steady progress on this darker Assassin's Creed experience, though there is still work ahead of us," and promised its next major Hexe update in 2027. That is a promise of news, not of a release. Ubisoft has also not shared platforms, a final title or a launch window.
What are Codename Mars and Codename Pocket?
The two codenames come from J0nathan, a French content creator with a track record of accurate Ubisoft leaks. He says Mars is a large Assassin's Creed game set in Ancient Rome, and that two sources with access to Ubisoft's backend systems corroborated it. He also suggests the setting could tie in with the upcoming live-action Assassin's Creed series on Netflix.
Pocket is described as a smaller mobile title set in Jerusalem, the city that featured in the very first Assassin's Creed in 2007. J0nathan claims it borrows ideas from the Mastery Challenges in Assassin's Creed Valhalla and has visuals similar to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
Insider Gaming says it has heard both codenames too, but could not verify them to its own reporting standard. It also warns that even if Mars moves deeper into production, an announcement may not come until 2029 or 2030.
What does it mean for Assassin's Creed fans?
If the reports are right, 2027 could pass without a new mainline game. Ubisoft's recent releases were Assassin's Creed Shadows in 2025 and the Black Flag Resynced remake on July 9, 2026, which has now received its last major content update. Valhalla, which Ubisoft says has passed 40 million players, got a New Game+ mode on November 5.
The timing is also sensitive. Rockstar's GTA 6 launches on November 19, so a 2028 Hexe would arrive well clear of the year's biggest release and its long tail of sales.
Ubisoft has been under pressure to rebuild trust with players, as the fan campaign around the Sands of Time remake showed. A longer Hexe schedule fits a company trying to avoid another rushed launch.
Our take
A first full Assassin's Creed in Ancient Rome would be a long-requested setting, since Brotherhood only visited Renaissance-era Rome. But the more important claim here is the Hexe delay, because it shapes Ubisoft's lineup for the next two years. Until Ubisoft's 2027 update, the safest reading is simple: Hexe is coming, Rome is a rumor, and the wait for both is getting longer.
